Hound Avionics announced SkyHound360, a new version of its portable SkyHound™ ADS-B In system featuring an integrated Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) for use with compatible Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications.
SkyHound360 builds on the existing SkyHound™ platform, combining SkyHound’s integrated traffic and weather display with AHRS data that can be used by compatible EFB applications such as ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, iFly EFB and others.
The addition of AHRS gives pilots access to attitude information on their compatible tablet or mobile device while continuing to provide SkyHound’s dedicated, integrated display for ADS-B traffic and weather.
“SkyHound™ was designed around a simple idea: give pilots critical traffic and weather information directly in front of them without requiring a tablet or subscription,” Hound Avionics Co-Founder Sholom Ellenberg said. “With SkyHound360, pilots still have that dedicated SkyHound™ display, while the addition of AHRS provides another valuable source of information to the EFB applications many pilots already use.”
One Device, More Capability
Like the original SkyHound™, SkyHound360 is a portable dual-band ADS-B In system with its own integrated pilot-facing display. It provides ADS-B traffic and available FIS-B weather information, including NEXRAD, METARs and other supported weather products.
When connected to a compatible EFB, SkyHound360 can also provide AHRS data to support the EFB’s attitude and synthetic-vision capabilities, where supported by the application.
SkyHound360 includes:
- Dual-band 978 MHz and 1090 MHz ADS-B reception
- Integrated color traffic and weather display
- ADS-B traffic
- FIS-B weather, including NEXRAD
- METAR, TAF and other supported weather information
- Integrated GPS
- Integrated AHRS for compatible EFB applications
- Wireless connectivity to EFB applications including ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, iFly EFB and others
- Portable operation with no permanent aircraft installation required
- No subscription required for SkyHound™ services
SkyHound™ or SkyHound360
Hound Avionics will offer pilots a choice between two SkyHound™ models.
The standard SkyHound™ will continue to be available for $849, providing SkyHound’s integrated traffic and weather display along with wireless connectivity to compatible EFB applications.
The new SkyHound360 adds integrated AHRS and will be available for $949.
Hound Avionics is also making the new capability available to its existing customers. Current SkyHound™ owners can upgrade their existing unit to SkyHound360 for $100, the same price difference as purchasing the new AHRS-equipped model.
“We wanted our existing customers to be able to take advantage of the new capability without having to replace the SkyHound™ they already own,” Ellenberg said. “For $100, an existing SkyHound™ can be upgraded to SkyHound360 with integrated AHRS.”
Built for Pilots
SkyHound™ was developed by pilots with an emphasis on making important information immediately accessible while keeping the cockpit simple.
Unlike portable ADS-B receivers that rely entirely on a tablet or phone for their user interface, SkyHound™ incorporates its own dedicated display for traffic and weather while also connecting wirelessly to compatible EFB applications.
SkyHound360 expands that approach by adding an integrated AHRS sensor, allowing a single portable device to provide SkyHound’s dedicated traffic and weather display while also supplying ADS-B, GPS and attitude data to compatible EFBs.
The original SkyHound™ is available for $849, and the new SkyHound360 is priced at $949. Existing SkyHound™ customers can upgrade their units to SkyHound360 for $100.
